For me and my fellow veterans, we swore a sacred Oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Today, some of the biggest enemies to our Constitution are the self-absorbed social media trolls and talking heads who knowingly spread lies and misinformation and, too quickly, become "famous" for all the wrong reasons. Next in line ... partisan extremism and political dysfunction that is fueled and incentivized by the $15 Billion "politics industry" -- the consultants, media, advertisers, campaign managers and candidates who profit from the status quo dysfunction. We the People cannot be torn apart by these malignant and malicious threats to our Constitution. Violence is never an acceptable solution; violence will not solve our country's deepest problems. It will tear us apart. Instead, we need a real reformation of our election system -- open, nonpartisan primaries, with the top 4 or 5 candidates, regardless of party, going to the General Election in November. Through healthy competition, we will incentivize good behavior and reward the best, problem solvers who appeal to the broadest number of voters; not the narrow, extremes. Through election innovations we can defend and support our Constitution from all of the cowardly, self-absorbed, feeble-minded bad actors who would willingly destroy our country for more power, more profit or simply 15 more minutes of fame. We must be wiser. We must be better. United we stand, divided we fall. Onward!
